Fabio Capello will give Joe Hart the chance to make himself England’s World Cup first choice keeper - after privately admitting the position could cost his side the ultimate glory.
Capello, who names his squad for next week’s Wembley friendly with Egypt at the weekend, checked Hart in action for Birmingham at Fulham on Sunday.
The on-loan Manchester City man has now been pencilled in for his first England start in Capello’s last game before he names his provisional squad for South Africa.
But the Italian has told friends that he fears the lack of a reliable No 1 could prove the Achilles heel that undermines the entire campaign next summer.
