Fergie reveals keeper plans
The Old Trafford boss expects veteran shot-stopper Edwin van der Sar to retire at the end of the season and Ferguson is hoping to have a replacement lined up.The United boss has already signed keeper Anders Lindegaard, although the Danish keeper is expected to be utilised as a back-up keeper with Tomasz Kuszczak set to move on in either January or in the summer.
Ferguson paid tribute to Van der Sar and hinted he is keen to have a proven number one lined-up when the imposing Dutchman steps down at the end of the campaign.
"We are planning for this being Edwin's last season," said Ferguson.
"I think we have learnt from when we tried to replace Peter. I should have signed Van der Sar after Schmeichel but I made a mistake.
"But now I think we know where we are going."
It has been widely reported that Neuer is Ferguson's top target and the Germany international could well be heading to Old Trafford in the summer, although the United boss has also been linked with Lyon and France star Hugo Loris and Dutch international Maarten Stekelenburg, who currently plays for Ajax.
