Davy O'Hare

Davy O Hare is one of the most experienced and consistent goalkeepers in the Irish League. He captained the Coleraine team during the 1995/96 First Division Title Winning season. When he returned to Coleraine in 2002 after spells with Crusaders and Newry, he played a key role in the Irish Cup victory that season and has been an almost ever-present fixture in the side since.

1. What’s your earliest footballing memory?
Getting beat 5-1 in an under 14 game where I dropped 2 in. a nice welcome to the world of goalkeeping!
2. When did you realise you wanted to become a goalkeeper?
My next door neighbour was a N.I. schoolboy goalkeeper. I used to ask him for tips and to show me how to be a goalkeeper. From then on I guess I knew more than other kids of my age so I was bound to end up in goals!

3. What route/how did you get into the game?
I played local under age football in Newry from the age of 10, and progressed to Newry reserves
4. what’s your best moment in football?
Captaining Coleraine to the first division title in 1995 and winning Irish cup in 2003
5. and your worst?
As a keeper that changes very quickly!
6. Has the boss ever given you a ticking off?
Often

8. You've just been given permission to sign any player in the world, who would you go for?
Nemanja Vidic

Far too many to list

Depends on who is giving them away! At the moment Diadora.
20. What clubs have you played for in your football career?
Coleraine, Crusaders, Newry and many clubs in Newry as I was growing up
21. Approximately how many penalty kicks would you have saved in your career?
No idea…too old to remember
22. Would you say you are good at saving penalties?
I used to be very good at it, haven’t been as successful in recent years
23. And what technique would you use?
Now that would be telling…
24. What advice would you give to somebody who wants to become a goalkeeper?
Are you sure? Take the lows with the highs as a goalkeeper because they are rarely far apart
25. What do you think about an all Ireland League?
I would be against it. Local club identity would be lost and only the strong would survive to the detriment of all others

28. How do you prepare for a game?
Eat early, relax and get changed late
